Commander of the Army Corps of Engineers Lt. Gen. Carl Strock briefs reporters in the Pentagon on the latest status of relief operations being conducted by the Corps along the U.S. Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Katrina on Sept. 15, 2005. Strock explained that the Corps is involved in multiple, simultaneous, operations ranging from the distribution of ice to the repair of levees. One of their biggest tasks will be debris removal. Strock emphasized that, to the greatest extent possible, the materials will be recycled.
