Commander U.S. Naval Forces Europe Adm. Henry Ulrich (left), U.S. Navy, and Commander U.S. Africa Command Lt. Gen. William E. Ward, U.S. Army, brief reporters in the Pentagon on Oct. 15, 2007, on a new maritime education program designed to assist African nations with such issues as maritime domain awareness, maritime law enforcement, and maritime legal and regulatory regimes called Africa Partnership Station. Two U. S. Navy ships the USS Fort McHenry, a large amphibious ship, and the HSV Swift, a smaller, high-speed vessel, will deploy to the Gulf of Guinea for seven months beginning in November 2007 to act as floating class rooms. Current plans call for the ships to visit Senegal, Liberia, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon, and Sao Tome & Principe.
