U.S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Carl Thompson modifies a shower mixer with an oxyacetylene torch in the pipe shop aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) while the ship is underway in the Gulf of Oman on Aug. 1, 2009. Thompson is assigned as a hull maintenance technician who is responsible for the upkeep of hulls, fittings, piping and machinery. The carrier is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
