U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. William McCollough, commander of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, speaks with Afghan National Police officers at Patrol Base Jaker, in Nawa district, Helmand province, Afghanistan, on Aug. 16, 2009. The Afghan National Police officers came to coordinate the security arrangements for the upcoming presidential elections. The Marines are deployed with Regimental Combat Team 3 to conduct counterinsurgency operations in partnership with the Afghan security forces in southern Afghanistan.
