Local elders and U.S. Marines with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment hold a meeting in Nawa district, Helmand province, Afghanistan, on Aug. 29, 2009. The meeting was aimed at addressing security issues and improvised explosive device awareness for the locals. The 1st Battalion is deployed with Regimental Combat Team 3 to conduct counterinsurgency operations in partnership with the Afghan security forces in southern Afghanistan.
