A U.S Marine with Headquarters and Support Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment conducts a census patrol in the Nawa district of the Helmand province of Afghanistan on Sept. 5, 2009. Census patrols are conducted to help build positive relationships with the local population. The 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment is deployed with Regimental Combat Team 3 to conduct counterinsurgency operations in partnership with Afghan National Security Forces in southern Afghanistan.
