Mills, commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) and Sgt. Maj. Michael Barrett, the unit’s sergeant major, were in the area visiting with Marines assigned to Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment. Mills assessed the battle conditions and the status of Marines directly involved in the fight against insurgency while in support of the International Security Assistance Force.
