U.S. Navy SEAL candidates from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) class 286 participate in a training exercise at Naval Base Coronado in Coronado, Calif., on Oct. 27, 2010. Surf passage training is designed to be a physically demanding evolution of First Phase conditioning for BUD/S students, who can be members of the U.S. Navy or Coast Guard. The Navy SEALs are the maritime component of U.S. Special Operations Forces, trained to conduct operations from the sea, air and land.
