Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton B. Carter thanks civilian employees of the Department of Defense for their hard work and dedication at the Spirit of Service Awards at the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., on May 9, 2012. Carter recognized 31 civil service employees in the Pentagon courtyard ceremony for their service to the nation as part of the Defense Department’s observance of Public Service Recognition Week.
